Abstract:
In vitro fertilization (IVF) has revolutionized infertility treatment across the globe and has gained significant traction in India over the last two decades. Rising infertility rates, changing lifestyles, and sociocultural pressures have intensified demand for assisted reproductive technologies (ART). India presents a unique IVF landscape, marked by rapid technological adoption, a growing commercial market, and complex ethical concerns. This review critically explores IVF advancements, regulatory frameworks, and psychosocial challenges in the Indian context. It highlights innovations such as preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), time-lapse embryo imaging, and the increasing use of cryopreservation. The review also analyzes the implications of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, and discusses the impact of affordability and accessibility gaps, particularly in rural areas. By integrating India-specific research and government data, the article offers a nuanced understanding of IVF’s evolution in India. It concludes by underscoring the need for enhanced ethical governance, improved access, and equitable policy implementation in India’s reproductive health framework.
